Launch trailer
15 October 2026. Ninety seconds captured on a base PS5, and the first trailer to say why Jason turned to crime.
Rockstar posted the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer at 2pm UK time on Thursday 15 October 2026. It went up on all of its channels at once, with no teaser and no countdown. It's about ninety seconds long, and it's almost certainly the last trailer before the game unlocks on 19 November.
The end card says it was captured entirely in game on a PlayStation 5. That means the base console, not a PS5 Pro and not a PC.
A quick note on sourcing. The scene descriptions below come from Rockstar's own text and from named outlets, and we've only included them where at least two of those sources agree. We didn't build this page from a frame by frame read of the trailer, the way we did for the Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 pages. Our news write-up has the sources.
Jason gets a reason
Two trailers and the Extended Look showed what Jason Duval does. This one tells you why. In voiceover he says he got into trouble in the Army and didn't leave on good terms, and that the people who'd normally lend money won't lend it to someone like him.
Coverage also points to a shot of a younger Jason in Army gear and a training school T-shirt, which reads as a flashback. That's somebody's interpretation of a frame, though. There's no caption on screen saying so.
Lucia starts on the phone
The trailer opens with Lucia Caminos calling Jason from prison. Later, in a shower scene, the camera lingers on an ankle monitor, which usually means supervised release. Rockstar hasn't said whether the tag turns into a mechanic or stays a story beat.

Helicopters, a swamp and a hotel pool
- Helicopters, over and over. Several outlets count at least four helicopter scenes, including one going down, and the pair firing from one over Vice City streets.
- A night operation in the Grassrivers. Jason and two armed men wade through the swamp with night vision goggles pushed up on their heads.
- A dirt bike off a ramp, in real time, with no slow motion and no prompt. Some coverage calls that the return of stunt jumps. Rockstar hasn't confirmed stunt jumps, and this page doesn't either.
- A rooftop jump into a hotel pool, with the two of them going together.
It's a story trailer, built around the relationship, and it doesn't try to be a feature list.
A new Justice single
The track's Flower in a Hurricane, a new single from Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. In October Rockstar's music page credited Justice as the game's original score composers and listed the song alongside Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, thirty-four original tracks out on 19 November.
Then on 29 October Rockstar's Newswire announced Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score, Justice's adaptive score for the game, out on 11 December. Flower in a Hurricane is presented there as the score's first single, with Pusher featuring Gesaffelstein as the second. So the song you hear over this trailer is the game's own music, and it isn't a licensed track. Whether it ends up on The Album, the score or both won't be clear until the tracklists are out.
The downgrade argument
Within a day, side by side comparisons with the first trailer were going round with the word downgrade attached. The launch trailer is softer, and it carries a heavier grade. Some of that's styling. Some of it's very likely the honest result of capturing on the base console, which isn't the most flattering hardware Rockstar had available.
That fits what Digital Foundry found in August: a generational leap, with visible compromises on the base PS5. Putting the hardware on the end card is Rockstar choosing to show what most players will actually see. That reading's ours.
Cut down for TV
A shorter cut ran as the game's first TV ad on 20 October, during NBA opening night. Kotaku and GameSpot both covered it, and our write-up has the detail.
- The shower shots got trimmed. The trailer has three. Kotaku says two were cut from the TV version. GameSpot says a shorter cut drops them and a longer one keeps them.
- Some shots run longer. The plane, Jason punching Lucia's arm, and Lucia jumping from a truck onto the plane's landing gear.
- It ends on a PlayStation logo only. There's no Xbox logo. Fans put that down to Sony's marketing deal, and neither company has commented.
Kotaku expects the same spot during the Miami Heat game on 18 November. It's still the last trailer before launch, but it isn't the last footage: on 28 October South Park aired a short gameplay clip that Rockstar supplied.
What isn't known
Rockstar hasn't published a shot list. The trailer doesn't say what Jason did in the Army, what Lucia was jailed for, or whether her ankle monitor limits where she can go in play. It doesn't confirm stunt jumps. It says nothing about how the story ends, and it adds nothing at all on a PC version. Edge reported on 29 October that Rockstar's demo tracks Jason and Lucia's relationship on a four-point scale, but the trailer doesn't show it, and nothing official says whether the relationship can break. We also don't know which record Flower in a Hurricane will sit on, or whether Rockstar plans more TV cuts before 19 November.
