Launch night

Everything that happens between now and playing it

Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out on 19 November 2026, at local midnight. So there's no single global moment, and no single answer to when you can play. This page works it out from your own clock and updates itself as the dates go by.

Reading your clock…

What to do before the night

Five things, in the order you'll stop being able to do them.

  1. 1

    Clear the space now

Estimates put the download somewhere between 150 and 200GB, and Rockstar hasn't published a figure. Clearing 200GB on a console can take a whole evening once you start deciding what to delete, and it's a lot less annoying to do it in October.

Which SSD, and when deleting is cheaper
  2. 2

    Know which edition you bought

The Ultimate Edition doesn't unlock all at once, and the physical edition has no disc in it, just a code. Both of those catch somebody out at every launch.

What the Ultimate Edition actually unlocks
  3. 3

Preload on 12 November, not on the night

The preload window's a week long for a reason. Starting a 200GB download at midnight, on the same evening as everyone else on your street, is the one easily avoidable way to miss your own launch.

Preloading and the disc that isn't there
  4. 4

Mute the obvious words on the 18th

Because the unlock rolls round the world, the opening hours of the story will be all over social media before big parts of the world can even start. Muting GTA 6, GTA VI, Jason and Lucia covers most of it.

Why the unlock rolls round the world

    Don't expect online

Grand Theft Auto 6 ships as a single-player game. There's no GTA Online at launch, and Rockstar hasn't announced a date for it.

Is there GTA Online at launch

Midnight travels west, one store region at a time

Local midnight is the most misread fact about this launch. There's no worldwide countdown to one instant. Midnight travels west around the planet, store region by store region, so Auckland is playing at eleven on Wednesday morning, London time. From New Zealand, which goes first, to Mexico, which goes last, the spread is nineteen hours.

That's why the list above lights up bit by bit instead of all at once. And for most of a day, the honest answer to whether the game is out yet is that it depends where you're standing.
