Age ratings
Mature 17+ in North America, PEGI 18 in Europe and the UK, R18+ in Australia and New Zealand. Seven ESRB descriptors, and no gambling label.
Grand Theft Auto 6's age ratings showed up on Rockstar's site and on the US PlayStation and Xbox store listings around 1 October 2026. The headline is what you'd expect: Mature 17+ from the ESRB in North America, PEGI 18 in Europe and the UK, and R18+ in Australia and New Zealand.
The detail underneath is more useful, both for parents and for anyone reading the labels for clues about what's in the game. Our news piece has the sources.
Seven ESRB descriptors
The ESRB's own entry for the game lists seven, and so does the US PlayStation Store listing:
- Blood and Gore
- Intense Violence
- Mature Humor
- Nudity
- Strong Language
- Strong Sexual Content
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol
It also carries the In-Game Purchases notice. Those seven are the same set Grand Theft Auto V carried, so on paper this game doesn't go any further than the last one did.
If you've seen a shorter list, that's probably from Rockstar's own site, where the rating text leaves out Mature Humor and Strong Sexual Content. Go by the ESRB's entry, since it's the ratings board's own record.
The launch trailer gives you an idea of where Strong Sexual Content comes from, since it includes a shower scene between Jason and Lucia. Australia's PlayStation Store listing names sex scenes alongside drug use and high impact violence.

The withdrawn PEGI text
PEGI publishes a longer written summary for a lot of games, and one went up for Grand Theft Auto 6 before it was taken down. Dexerto reported what it said before it disappeared: detailed decapitation and dismemberment, the ability to carry cocaine and take it from your hand at any time, and animals that can be hurt but without the injury detail applied to people.
This is Reported only. We haven't seen the page ourselves, and a page that's been withdrawn may have been withdrawn because it was wrong.
No gambling descriptor
None of the Grand Theft Auto 6 classifications shown so far carries a gambling descriptor. Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online and the PS5 release of Grand Theft Auto V all do, and in Grand Theft Auto V's case the reason is the casino, with poker, blackjack and roulette.
Our inference is that the base game has no casino-style betting. That's a guess from the label, and it doesn't prove every form of betting is gone. A rating covers what was submitted, and there's no online mode at launch. Whatever an online mode eventually includes would get rated when it arrives. The sports and minigames page carries the same caution.
What In-Game Purchases means here
The ESRB puts that notice on any purchase of digital content from inside a game, from a currency shop down to an upgrade path. Rockstar has said there are no microtransactions in single player, and the two don't contradict each other: you can buy the Ultimate Edition as an upgrade at any point, which is exactly what the label's there to flag.
For parents
In the US, an M rating is a recommendation. In the UK and much of Europe, PEGI 18 is a legal age limit, so a shop can't sell the game to someone under eighteen. Both consoles have parental controls that can block games above an age rating you choose. Expect the story content, including the sexual content and drug use in cutscenes, to be there whether a player goes looking for it or not.
What isn't known
We don't know whether the withdrawn PEGI text was accurate, whether the game has any form of betting at all, or what a future online mode would be rated. We haven't been able to confirm Germany's USK rating yet either, and PEGI's own database entry, with its full descriptor list, is the one to wait for before trusting any PEGI breakdown going round.
