One-Eyed Willie

A heavily built Canis off-roader in acid green, photographed finished and mid-build. The name belongs to an off-road mod shop at Lake Leonida, one of the Ultimate Edition's Special Destinations.

Three images in Rockstar's Ultimate Edition press material carry the name One-Eyed Willie, and all three show the same vehicle: a Canis off-road truck in acid green, with a tube bumper, roof bar, cut arches and oversized knobbly tyres.

The grille badge reads CANIS in the detail shot, and that's the only manufacturer identification we've got.

Two studio shots and a workshop

The first two are studio shots against a green-lit backdrop, one of the full vehicle and one close on the grille and bonnet. The third's the interesting one: the same truck up on stands in a workshop, bonnet open, with somebody working underneath it and a warning triangle on the floor.

The workshop shot points to a custom build

It's the same framing Rockstar uses for Rideout Customs, the body shop shown elsewhere in the same press set. A named vehicle photographed mid-build, in a garage, next to separate imagery of a customisation business, is a fairly strong hint that this is a build and not a stock model.

That would make One-Eyed Willie a named custom, where you might have expected a manufacturer product. It's the way a real modified truck picks up a name from whoever built it.

It's a mod shop

The Ultimate Edition's PlayStation Store listing settles most of this. One-Eyed Willie's is one of five Special Destinations that come with the Ultimate Edition, described as a mod shop at Lake Leonida for off-road modifications and hand-painted artwork. The other four are Rideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305 and Electric Fang Tattoo.

So the workshop read was close. The name looks like it belongs to the business, and the green truck reads as the kind of thing it builds, hand-painted finish and all. Rockstar hasn't said in so many words that this exact truck is one you can drive.

Canis, Rockstar's Jeep

Canis is Rockstar's stand-in for Jeep, and it's covered the boxy, capable, slightly agricultural end of the range across several games. A Canis in Leonida makes obvious sense given the wetland tracks in Grassrivers and the back country around Ambrosia. Ambrosia is the region beside Lake Leonida, which puts the shop right on the edge of that back country.

The Goonies connection

One-Eyed Willie is the pirate whose treasure drives the plot of The Goonies, a 1985 film. There's no way to know whether Rockstar means the reference or just likes the name, but the studio names things deliberately, and the mid-eighties reference points in this game aren't accidents.

What isn't known

We know what the shop is, but not much about the truck. Rockstar hasn't said whether the green Canis is a vehicle you get, a build you can pay for at the shop, or just a showpiece in its photos, and it hasn't given the truck a model name. We also don't know where on Lake Leonida the shop sits, what the off-road modifications include, whether Standard Edition players can use it at all, or how it compares with Rideout Customs.
