Declasse Vamos

The Vamos is one of the more interesting confirmations because of where it comes from. It used to be a Grand Theft Auto Online exclusive, and now it's turned up in Grand Theft Auto 6, so a piece of that catalogue is carrying over into the new game.

Why an Online exclusive coming back matters

Grand Theft Auto Online ran for more than a decade and built up a huge list of vehicles, and most of them never existed in the single-player game as it shipped. Those cars were designed, modelled and balanced for players who were still playing years after release, and a lot of them are better than the launch cars they sit next to.

Seeing one show up in Grand Theft Auto 6 tells you more about the catalogue carrying on than about this particular car. It suggests Rockstar sees its vehicle list as one ongoing body of work, and it isn't starting over. That's got knock-on effects for how much of the Online catalogue eventually turns up.

The car itself

It's an older American two-door in the classic mould, the kind of car that in real life would now be somewhere between a project car and a restored show piece. Declasse is Rockstar's version of Chevrolet and General Motors, covering pick-ups, plain sedans, police cruisers and older muscle, and the Vamos sits at the muscle end of that range.

Classic cars on Florida streets

Florida has a really big classic car scene, helped by a climate where nobody salts the roads and cars don't rust out from under their owners. Old American metal survives down there in a way it doesn't up north, and you'll see plenty of it out on the street. It isn't kept locked away for shows.

A restored sixties coupe on Ocean Drive isn't an unusual sight in Miami. It's closer to set dressing.

What isn't known

We haven't seen whether it's a common car you'll find parked on the street or a rare find, and no specs have been published. Rockstar also hasn't said how much of the Grand Theft Auto Online catalogue comes back.
