Bravado Buffalo STX

The series' Dodge Charger stand-in, and one of the most warmly received confirmations from the trailers.

The Buffalo's a Grand Theft Auto regular, and the STX is its modern, Charger-shaped version. It was one of the more popular vehicle spots when people went through the trailers frame by frame.

Where it comes from

The Buffalo properly arrived in the series in Grand Theft Auto IV, as a four-door muscle sedan modelled on the Dodge Charger of that time, and it's been in every mainline game since. Grand Theft Auto V had several versions of it, and the STX came later as a meaner variant with a wide body and a lot more power.

That history is why people reacted the way they did when they spotted it. Returning cars bring back the memory of how they drove, and for fifteen years the Buffalo's been the car people grab when they want something fast that still looks like a normal car from a distance.

Cop car and enthusiast car at once

The Dodge Charger it's based on has a specific place in American road life that suits this game perfectly. It's the enthusiast's rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan, and it's also the most recognisable police car in the United States. Having both of those on the same body is a gift to a game about being chased.

Why it fits Leonida

Florida's flat, hot and full of long straight roads with speed limits nobody sticks to. A heavy rear-drive sedan with too much power is right at home there, and you really do see them everywhere in the state.

The evidence-based wanted system adds another angle. A car this common is harder to describe in any useful way. If the police are matching a vehicle against a description, driving the most ordinary fast car on the road is a tactical choice as much as a matter of looks.

What isn't known

Rockstar hasn't published any specs, and the way a car handles in a trailer tells you nothing reliable about how it'll handle in the finished game. We haven't seen whether the older Buffalo variants come back too.
