Does your GTA Online money carry over to GTA 6?

Rockstar hasn't said no. It hasn't said anything at all, about the one feature everybody keeps asking for, and that silence has been going on a while.

Short answer: nobody's told you. There's no announced character transfer, no announced money transfer, and no statement either way.

We know that's an unsatisfying answer, so let's be precise about what's actually known, because the gap between *not announced* and *ruled out* is where most of the bad information on this lives.

What a 2013 player has on the line

Twelve years of GTA Online adds up to a lot of property. The garage and every car in it. The businesses: the nightclub, the bunker, the arcade. The rank. If you started near release, there's a decade of evenings sitting in that save file.

None of it's been promised a route into the new game.

Rockstar hasn't said no. It hasn't said anything

That's the distinction that matters, and it keeps getting flattened in both directions.

There's no Rockstar statement confirming a transfer. There's also no Rockstar statement ruling one out. Anybody telling you it's confirmed, and anybody telling you it's definitely dead, is filling in a blank Rockstar's left empty.

What we'd say is that in this industry, staying quiet about the one feature an audience is loudest about isn't neutral. Rockstar answers the questions it wants to answer, and this one's been sitting there waiting for an answer for a long time.

What Rockstar has carried over before, and what it hasn't

The detail's worth getting right here, because the popular version of this argument is wrong in a small way that matters.

Rockstar has carried GTA Online characters between platforms, more than once, when players changed console generation. So the claim that Rockstar never migrates anything is false.

What Rockstar's never done is carry a character from one game into the next. Not GTA 4 to GTA 5. Not Red Dead Redemption to Red Dead Redemption 2. Every previous transition started everyone at zero.

So the precedent has nothing to do with what's technically possible. It's a consistent editorial choice: a new game begins a new economy.

The much smaller thing that's been signalled

What's come up is a lot smaller than a transfer. The shape of it, as reported, is recognition tied to your Rockstar account, an acknowledgement that you were there and what you did. Your balance doesn't get deposited anywhere.

Think of that as a nod, and don't go expecting an inheritance. It isn't confirmed in any detail either, which is why this article's labelled Unconfirmed and not Reported.

And there's nothing to transfer into yet

It's easy to lose this in the argument: GTA 6 ships on 19 November as a single-player game. There's no online mode announced, no name for one, and no date.

A transfer needs somewhere to go. Until an online mode exists, the question's premature, never mind unanswered.

What to do in the meantime

Nothing dramatic. Don't sell anything, don't spend down a balance on the assumption it'll evaporate, and don't grind for a carry-over that's never been promised.

Play GTA Online because you enjoy GTA Online. If a nod arrives later, it'll arrive as a bonus, and you won't have spent months working towards it. We'll update this page when Rockstar says anything at all, in either direction.
